Biotar 58 - the classic among the Biotars

Launched in the mid-1930s, the original Biotar 2/58 was offered for approximately 25 years, making it the longest and best-selling Biotar in this lens series to date. The new version of the extremely popular, highly versatile lens, also delivers its incomparable charm in its modern version, as the Biotar 58 f1.5 II, and comes up with excellent imaging characteristics. With the help of the Görlitz-based designer, Dr.-Ing. Wolf-Dieter Prenzel, the new edition of the Biotar 58 has been greatly improved with regard to light intensity, image sharpness and contrast behavior, and the wonderful characteristics of the original Biotar 58 have been transferred to the new version of the classic.

The fastest and sharpest Biotar 58 ever!

With the new Biotar 58 f1.5 II, an absolute classic has been revived and perfected at the same time. Through intensive development work, the image language, the bokeh and the other popular characteristics of the original Biotar 58 f2.0 could be retained and at the same time the speed has been increased to f1.5. In addition to the higher speed, the Biotar 58 II, through various optimizations of the optical system, achieves a sharpness that its predecessors could not reach. This high sharpness or extreme resolution is a particularly noteworthy advantage in close-up and portrait photography. It also shines in difficult lighting situations - the Biotar 58 II produces little to no color fringing even with an open aperture in strong backlighting situations, and still achieves excellent results even in low ambient light thanks to its high speed.

Biotar bokeh as you know and love it

Swirling highlights in the background are the hallmark of Biotar photography. The new Biotar 58 f1.5 II also draws highlights in the out-of-focus plane as swirls of light balls. At the same time, it flatters any portrait with its wonderful color reproduction, beautiful sharpness gradients and natural image compression. In certain situations, you create a three-dimensional look that makes the motif literally jump out of the picture. Of course, you can reduce the effect by stopping down and at the same time increase the already high sharpness even more and get finest resolution in all image areas.

Versatile bokeh and mood catcher

The Biotar 58 f1.5 II, like the Biotar 75 f1.5 II, can draw swirling, dreamy, or soft bokeh (sometimes all at once). Likewise, it can produce a butterfly-shaped bokeh. Unlike some modern lenses that are designed for a 1:1 representation of reality, our biotars can capture moods, emotions, and the magic of special moments. Even slightly stopped down, the Biotar 58 f1.5 II draws a very high level of sharpness across the entire image and because of its more 'normal' angle of view, compared to the Biotar 75 f1.5 II, it can be used in many disciplines such as fashion, wedding, architecture, sports and even macro. The Biotar 58 f1.5 II provides many creative options that can be combined to create distinctive image compositions.
